5 Mold Removal Cleaning Tips for your Home

cleaning mold

Have you lost peace in your home because of mold, but you don’t know what to do? With your health and indoor air quality in mind, here are five spring cleaning tips to help remove mold, mildew, and other unwanted allergens from your home:

1: Use the Proper Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning is only as efficient as the cleaning equipment and supplies you use. We recommend using disinfectant sprays that kill harmful germs and bacteria because these products also prevent mold and mildew growth. When vacuuming a room, use a vacuum cleaner that has a HEPA filter. Vacuums with HEPA filters will capture smaller allergens, while some other types won’t. Lastly, focus on the bathroom and kitchen when spring cleaning because mold and mildew thrive in moist areas with standing water and heavy humidity.

2: Invest in a Dehumidifier

Investing in a dehumidifier for your home is highly recommended as mold spores and mildew thrive on moisture and humidity. Dehumidifiers reduce the humidity in a living space, making the environment more comfortable and easier to breathe in. Additionally, dehumidifiers are capable of eliminating musty odors from an area.

3: Purchase a Room Air Purifier

Air purifiers, also known as air cleaners, remove air contaminants such as pollen, pet dander, dust, smoke, and mold spores from a living environment. Everyone can benefit from breathing easier after purchasing an air-cleaning system such as an air purifier. So while you are out purchasing a dehumidifier, you should also purchase an air purifier to not only prevent mold but to help you and your family breathe better.

4: Consider Hardwood Floors Instead of Carpet

This isn’t something you can do, but homeowners with allergies should consider opting for hardwood floors over carpets because many allergens accumulate in carpet fibers. In fact, every time you walk across a carpet, irritants like dust, pollen, and pet dander are re-released into your living environment, decreasing the indoor air quality of your home. Hardwood floors not only significantly reduce indoor allergens, but they’re also easier to clean.

5: Keep Unwanted Allergens Outdoors

Allergens like dust, pollen, and mold spores are present everywhere in the environment, but unfortunately for homeowners, they find their way into our living spaces as well. Placing doormats at all entrances of your home as well as, having guests remove their shoes before entering your property can significantly reduce outdoor allergens being tracked inside. And for the allergens that do get in, clean your home or apartment at least once a week.

Just had Fresh Air Tech address and resolve a chronic moisture problem in our crawlspace. I'm very pleased with the entire process. Company owner Jay is the opposite of the pushy salesmen we spoke with at other outfits. And my final invoice was less than we agreed to, because the Fresh Air crew found a way to solve one of my issues with less labor and therefore a reduced price. Happy to recommend these guys.

I recently discovered a mild mold problem in my crawlspace and begin my search for a company to remediate. Fresh Air Tech. seemed to have the best treatment plan for my situation and was the most competitive when it came down to the price. I had the mold removed/sprayed with prevention chemicals, crawlspace cleaned with a new vapor barrier and a dehumidifier installed. I didn't know what to expect never having to deal with this before but I can ensure you these guys do not cut corners and did an excellent job. The cleaning crew (3 guys) arrived about 8AM and were under the house until about 4:45PM cleaning and sanding taking a quick 30 minute lunch break around noon. They returned the next day to install the vapor barrier and to finish cleaning up. The dehumidifier also comes with a monitor that displays the temp and moisture level down in the crawlspace which i thought was pretty cool. Excellent job, thanks again team.
